The Eastern Stone Curlew, or thick-knee, often gets a hard time in urban areas because of its highly defensive tactics and loud nocturnal communications. Here the curlew is portrayed as a proud Australian bird, one who will fiercely defend its family, complete with a cowboy hat that suits the curlew's general behaviour and attitude. Rich earthy hues with hints of ochre and blush make up this one off statement piece. Area of textured paint invite the viewer to lean in close.

'Oyster Farmer's Daughter ' by Naomi Crowther is a haunting artwork of an oyster farmer's daughter gazing out to sea with a French martini in hand, wondering what’s beyond her shore. ‘Childhood weekends spent messing about along tidal waterways made me a true oyster lover. My brother and I would adventure for hours along the waterways, always with a knife and bush lemon in our pockets. When we felt hungry we'd open oysters straight off the rocks and use the lids to scoop them out. I'll always savour that creamy, fresh sea water taste.' - Naomi.

'It’s a uniquely Australian sound, the screech of the black cockatoo. They’ve been calling out from the towering gums behind the creek, near my house, heralding rain, and hopefully there’s more on the way.'
'Black Cockatoos Homeward Bound' is inspired by the afterglow on the inlet not far from Naomi's home and studio on the Far Sth Coast of NSW. The abstract white flannel flowers are quite textured, and contract against ochre coloured Australian gum trees. Three yellow tailed black cockatoos swoop down low on their way home to roost in the hollows of spotted gums. This bold and intrinsically Australian painting is a one-off fine art abstract, and blends Naomi's bushland and botanicals series.
