Eco Print Pure Silk Seaweed Scarf #3

$99.00
1 available

‘The sea, once it casts its spell, hold one in its net of wonder forever.’ - Jacques Cousteau

Each of my scarves are hand made using the age old method of cyanotype sun printing, a technique I use regularly in my paintings, with seaweed sourced from Wimbie Beach on the Eurobodalla Coast, NSW, Australia. By gifting or wearing this, you are showing that you, too, honour the delights of the ocean!

150cm x 40cm
Cyanotype one-off mono print on pure silk, hand hemmed.
Naomi Crowther 2025

The photos show the ACTUAL scarf you will receive. It is a one-off work of art and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

$99 includes free postage Australia wide. Contact me for International or Express shipping after purchase, to work out your quote.

Backstory:

In the 1980 and 1990s we lost our seaweed. Around 70km of the Sydney coastline was denuded of Crayweed, where crayfish and abalone hide. Slowly but surely with a lot of hard work, it is being replanted. We no longer pump raw sewage into our ocean outfalls on the Australian East coast, and the seaweed is growing back.

I live on the NSW Far South Coast, and the beach where I swim (and where the seaweed for this scarf was collected) is only 500m from a treated ocean outfall. It is abundant with life, as we have learned from our mistakes. We are starting to take action for our beautiful, marvellous ocean. The sheer wonder of the sea and its calming and invigorating properties seep into my arts practice on a deep level, and I am beyond grateful to live in such close proximity to it.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Delicate hand wash only in very mild soap cold water. Please choose carefully as there are no exchanges or refunds due to the wearable nature of these works. My studio assistant and I inspect each scarf before shipping to ensure its condition.
